Cookie policy
This page explains the cookies and similar technologies (such as your browser's local storage) that https://calidiary.com uses, and the choices you have. It covers our website and your CaliDiary account. The CaliDiary plugin adds no tracking to your website: it sets no cookies for us, and the booking form sends no cookies at all.
The short version. We always use the cookies our website needs to work and stay secure. We use no analytics and no advertising cookies at the moment, so there is nothing to accept or reject. If we start, they will be off unless you allow them.
1. What cookies are
Cookies are small files a website saves in your browser. Local storage is similar, but stays in your browser and is never sent to the website. The law allows websites to use them without asking only when they are strictly necessary for a service you have asked for, such as signing in. Anything else, such as analytics or advertising, needs your permission first.
2. Cookies we use
All of these are strictly necessary, so they are always on.
| Name | Set by | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|---|
| calidiary-session | calidiary.com | Keeps your visit secure and, once you sign in, keeps you signed in as you move between pages. It also remembers what you are doing, for example part-way through a form. It is encrypted | 120 minutes after your last activity |
| XSRF-TOKEN | calidiary.com | Protects our forms against misuse by other websites | 120 minutes after your last activity |
| remember_web_… | calidiary.com | Keeps you signed in on this device, only if you tick "Keep me signed in". Signing out removes it | 30 days |
| cd_consent | calidiary.com | Remembers your cookie choices (whether you allowed analytics and marketing cookies), so we don't ask on every page. Set only once you make a choice | 6 months |
| laravel_maintenance | calidiary.com | Only for people we invite to preview the website before launch or during maintenance | 12 hours |
| __cf_bm, cf_clearance | Cloudflare (for calidiary.com) | May be set by Cloudflare, which protects our website, to tell people from automated attacks (for example, after a security check) | __cf_bm: 30 minutes; cf_clearance: as set for the security check |
3. Local storage we use
| Name | What it does | How long |
|---|---|---|
| cd-theme | Remembers light or dark mode, only if you choose one with the switch. It never leaves your browser | Until you clear it |
4. Google reCAPTCHA on our forms
Our sign-up, contact and live chat forms (the chat only for visitors who are not signed in) use Google reCAPTCHA to protect them from spam and automated abuse. It is loaded only on pages with one of these forms, and only once you start using the form. To work, reCAPTCHA collects information about your device and how you use the page (such as your IP address and browser details), sends it to Google, and may store data in your browser. We treat it as strictly necessary, because it protects our service and your account from abuse, so it is not part of the cookie choices, and we use it for nothing else. Google's privacy policy and terms apply.
5. Payments
When you buy, you pay on Stripe's own secure pages, which use their own cookies to process the payment and prevent fraud, under the Stripe privacy policy and the Link privacy policy. We do not control these cookies.
6. Analytics and marketing cookies (only if you allow them)
Analytics cookies help us see how our website is used, so we can improve it. Marketing cookies show us whether our adverts lead to sign-ups and purchases, and may be used to show our adverts to people who have visited our website. They are off unless you allow them, and the tools that use them are not loaded until you do.
The tools we use:
At the moment we use none of them, so the cookie choices box does not appear and there is nothing to accept or reject. We will update this page before we start using one.
When we use any of these tools:
- The first time you visit, a box at the bottom of the page asks for your choice: Accept all, Reject all (just as easy) or Manage choices, to allow analytics and marketing cookies separately.
- We remember your choice for 6 months (the cd_consent cookie in section 2), then ask again. We may also ask again when we change the tools we use.
- You can change your mind at any time with Cookie settings at the bottom of every page. If you switch a type off, we delete its cookies from our website and stop loading its tools.
- We use Google Consent Mode, which tells Google's tools what you chose.
- Google and Microsoft may also set cookies on their own websites (such as google.com and bing.com) when their tools run, under their own policies: Google's privacy policy and Microsoft's privacy statement.
Links from the CaliDiary plugin to our website carry simple tags (such as "utm_source=calidiary-plugin") so we can see which links people use. These are part of the link, not cookies, and do not identify you.
7. Controlling cookies in your browser
You can block or delete cookies in your browser's settings. If you block the cookies above, parts of our website, such as signing in, will not work. To clear the light or dark choice, use your browser's option to clear site data.
