Use CaliDiary behind Cloudflare

One switch tells CaliDiary to look at each visitor's own address when your site is behind Cloudflare.

Plans
Plans: Free, Solo, Pro
In the plugin
CaliDiary → Settings → Sign-in and security

When you need it

  • Your website uses Cloudflare (your web designer or host will know).
  • Several different visitors are told “Too many tries” at the same time.

Before you start

  • Only do this if your website really is behind Cloudflare. Not sure? Ask whoever looks after your website.

Step by step

  1. Open CaliDiary → Settings and choose the Sign-in and security tab.

  2. In the Security card, switch on This site is behind Cloudflare.

[Screenshot to come] It will show: The Security card with the toggle “This site is behind Cloudflare” switched on, its help text ending “Not sure? Ask whoever looks after your website.”, and Save settings.
The Security card with “This site is behind Cloudflare” switched on (Settings → Sign-in and security (Security card))
  3. Press Save settings.

  4. CaliDiary now counts each visitor's own address for its limits on bookings and sign-in tries, instead of Cloudflare's.

Tips

  • CaliDiary only trusts the visitor's address Cloudflare passes on when the visit really comes from Cloudflare's own addresses, so switching it on can't be misused by others.
  • Leave it off if you use another service in front of your website: it is only for Cloudflare.

Common problems

Visitors are told “Too many tries” when they haven't tried much
Behind Cloudflare, every visitor can look like the same few addresses. Switch on This site is behind Cloudflare and save.
I'm not sure whether my site uses Cloudflare
Ask your web designer or hosting company. If it doesn't, leave the setting off: nothing else needs it.
